New direction: Hey Lola will still be just jewelry but LOVE Hey Lola is all of Jessica.
The story about how I started working at Lola is a good one. It perfectly summaries me and my relationship with Jessica and Lola. That however is a story for another day or an upcoming episode on the podcast. Today I want to talk about why I’m so excited for our new direction - to do that requires a little bit of background. I knew of Hey Lola, but very little. I’m not a jewelry person and I don’t really do social media. I do have a heart for advocating for sustainability and compassion toward the environment and those unable or struggle to advocate for themselves.
Dear Jessica,
I have grown so much over the last year and a half working here. This company is amazing. You are incredible. I’ve witnessed Annie (human) make complex things look way too easy. I've seen you juggle how big your heart is and how little time there is in a day. Most importantly, I love everything we do and why we do it.
I continue to see how much more Lola is/was and could be. Jewelry is great but what you/we do is so much more than that. When you presented the idea of expanding the business it made sense. I hope I encouraged you to realize you’re more than just jewelry. We aren’t just machines. We don’t want to produce just to produce or for “profit”. You’re so much more and you need to stop feeling guilty when you spend time doing and sharing all these other parts. I want you to see that it's time well spent and feel good about the effort and energy you put in. I want it shared with as many people as possible. I want Lola to become a hub that supports our values of environmental stewardship, community, self-worth, and education. Every single one of them; in more ways than just a beautiful pair of dirty balls (if you know, you know).
We are Mission Driven and not a retail enterprise. We are people and planet focused. I want all the things we create, inspire, and share to be made from what’s left behind. Obviously, garbage, but also baggage/feelings/experiences. Let's share all that along with knowledge from our continued desire to learn and grow. I want you, us, to share about business, art, the environment, the unhoused and other individuals that need our voices and actions, and random Taylor Swift facts. If people get half as much out of it as I do, it’s worth it. I want to be a light in a possibly dark time or a highlight on any type of day.
So to everyone, welcome to the new Love Hey Lola. Remain only a Hey Lola jewelry fan and we love you for it. But if you want to come along on our journey to expand, we’re so happy to have you. You will not be disappointed. More Jessica is always a good thing in my experience.
Emily
