The sky bluepigment used for these cloudy day earrings was created with remnants from our "dirty old balls" collection (we have a collection of toy balls that were used for dog-friendly events and were chewed to the point that they could no longer be used. And they can't be recycled via traditional means). The "clouds" were created by cutting shapes from yogurt lids.

The earwires for these are nickel-free 24k gold plated brass, and the earrings measure approximately 2" long.

The pigment in these pieces comes from dried paint peeled off of my paint palettes. My primary paint medium is acrylic and unfortunately, acrylic paint is plastic. There is no current method of recycling these plastics via traditional means, so it makes perfect sense for me to incorporate them into my jewelry. The binding agent that holds these paint chips together is a plant based bio resin.

Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Colors may look different in person than they appear on screen. This listing is for one pair of earrings, only. All other photos are included for size and material reference.

  • These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.

A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.

Please see our page on sustainability for information on how you can return your old or worn out Hey Lola jewelry to us for recycling.
