The focal pieces for these earrings are made from used, discarded, and reclaimed school supplies. In many cases, there is no current method of recycling these plastics via traditional means. (All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use). The "corals" are all cut by hand, and each pair is one of a kind. Each pair of earrings should be considered sisters rather than twins - they look very much alike but are not completely identical. Bold and statement-making, but incredibly lightweight - these earrings come on 24k gold plated brass fish hook style ear wires and measure approximately 2.75" long.

These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.
A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.
