These earrings are truly a one-of-a-kind pair, and were inspired by the life and work of Frida (as so many of my pieces are).
 
These 45 mm hoops include orange and red skull beads, handmade straw flowers, wedding favors (the birds!), handmade plastic disc beads (made from reclaimed plastics), and reclaimed assorted beads. I can tell you stories about so many of the beads that come to me, but for now, I'll just tell you about the birds. A long time ago, in another lifetime, I was an event coordinator and a wedding planner. At one of the many weddings I helped coordinate over the years, there were favors that had these little white doves attached to plastic wedding rings. Of course, guests often leave the favors behind, and this event was no exception. So I took the favors home with me, and I turned the birds into the beads that now fly from these colorful earrings. 
 
As a sustainability enthusiast, I'm always looking for ways to lower my footprint. These earrings fit perfectly with my mission, as I did not purchase any new beads for these - they were designed using the remnants of donated broken/discarded jewelry and/or beads.  
 
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to reduce my environmental footprint by reusing existing items, preventing them from going to the landfill, and repurposing these pieces into something fresh and new. Creating in this manner also allows me to continue to create unique and limited-edition pieces.
