Inspired by the work and life of Frida Kahlo, a pile of once ugly things turned into a brightly colored bouquet of something beautiful to adorn yourself with.

Photos are examples of what your bouquets might look like but please keep in mind, that every bouquet is unique and will be similar but not identical to the pictures.

The flowers on these artist-made earrings are each cut and formed by hand from trash plastics -these were made from discarded straws. These handmade flower charms are then assembled together on gold-filled (so looks silver) 35 mm hoops. Because of the labor-intensive process of this work and the uncertainty regarding sourcing of materials, these earrings are made in small batches and have limited availability.

Gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than gold plated. Because that layer is so much thicker, it means gold-filled jewelry lasts longer and stands up to wear and tear better than gold plated.

In many cases, there is no current method of recycling the plastics I use via traditional means. The plastics used for these earrings are currently not recyclable where I live. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use. And if you ever decide that you've had your jewelry long enough, you can send it back to us and we'll recycle it again!

Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Colors may look slightly different in person than they appear on screen. This listing is for one pair of earrings, only. All other photos are included for size and material reference.

  • These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.

A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.

Please see our page on sustainability for information on how you can return your old or worn out Hey Lola jewelry to us for recycling.
