The "bubbles" on these earrings were made from tiny pipettes. A bag of too small pipettes was thrifted and gifted to me, and after staring at it for weeks, I finally found their purpose. The amateur scientist in me absolutely loves that these are pipettes, while the ocean loving artist in me is absolutely enamored by the suggestion of fish or octopus eggs. (Not to worry - we're using all of the parts that were cut off of the pipettes in other projects - nothing was wasted!)
The clear "bubbles" are on reclaimed/donated silver tone headpins, while the earwires are hypoallergenic silver plated brass oval hoops. They measure approximately 1.5" long.
In many cases, there is no current method of recycling the plastics I use via traditional means. The plastics used for these earrings are currently not recyclable where I live. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use. And if you ever decide that you've had your jewelry long enough, you can send it back to us and we'll recycle it again!

Silver Stem Bubble Oval Hoops
These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.
A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.
