These colorful earrings are a one-of-a-kind pair and were inspired by the life and work of Frida (as so many of my pieces are).
These 35mm hoops include red skull beads, vintage flower beads, wedding favors (the birds!), and reclaimed assorted beads. I can tell you stories about so many of the beads that come to me, but for now, I'll just tell you about the birds. A long time ago, in another lifetime, I was an event coordinator and a wedding planner. At one of the many weddings I helped coordinate over the years, there were favors that had these little white doves attached to plastic wedding rings. Of course, guests often leave the favors behind, and this event was no exception. So I took the favors home with me, and I turned the birds into the beads that now fly from these colorful earrings.
As a sustainability enthusiast, I'm always looking for ways to lower my footprint. These earrings fit perfectly with my mission, as I did not purchase any new beads for these - they were designed using the remnants of donated broken/discarded jewelry and/or beads.
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to reduce my environmental footprint by reusing existing items, preventing them from going to the landfill, and repurposing these pieces into something fresh and new. Creating in this manner also allows me to continue to create unique and limited-edition pieces.

The trash plastics (plastic pigment) in Hey Lola products come from beach plastic, street plastic, donated plastics and leftover bits from my other recycled plastic jewelry and/or sculptures. In many cases, there is no current method of recycling these plastics via traditional means. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use. When a binding agent is needed to hold the plastics together, we use a plant based bio resin.
We pair the plastics with high quality ear wires so that your jewelry will last longer.
And if you ever decide that you've had your item long enough, you can pop it in an envelope and send it back to us - we'll recycle it again!
